Sculpture in Snow_Snow World_Harbin

Canon 5D Mark II camera and Canon 24-105mm f4 L series lens @ 60mm Exposure Details: 1/500 second @ f9 ISO 100.Snow World in Harbin, China is great fun and provides the keen photographer with loads of picture opportunities. Dozens of sculptures, carved from snow, dominate the landscape. In the half day I had at Snow World I managed to explore most of the park, although I could easily have spent the whole day there. It's a real hoot.

For the above image I employed Adobe Lightroom 3 to render the file into black-and-white, prior to applying a day as night technique to give the impression that the image was made during the evening.

Situated in the far north east of the country, close to the North Korean and Russian (Siberian) borders, Harbin is a long way to travel for the average tourist. During January, when I visited, the cold is extreme and often gets down to -20C. Nevertheless, together with the cities other major winter attraction, Ice World, the short flight from Beijing is worth considering. Just dress appropriately.
