Cockatoos Clowing Around - Kakadu National Park

Kakadu National Park is an amazing place full of wildlife and wild, wild beauty. One of the national park's most intriguing features is the changing relationship from season to season, between the landscape and the abundant wildlife that populates it. The key is the weather and the region's two main seasons, the wet and the dry, seem to determine the fate and behaviour of so many creatures.

This particular image was made during the dry winter season, which is warm with little rain. The wildlife seems to enjoy the slightly lower temperatures and reduced humidity at this time of year. This is evident in the playfulness of the cockatoos. I sat and watched them tease each other by tail pulling and tugging each others beaks.

Timing was the key to this image. I set the camera's exposure and focus and waited for the right moment to capture the bird's antics and the contrast between their sulphur coloured feathers and the blue sky.
